Tips for Travelling With Pets during Winter
November 28, 2017

travelling with pets winter

There are very few people in this world who have pets and they do not consider their pets as family members. From participating in their activities to feeding them every time, people love to treat them in the most humane manner. Even when going somewhere else, they never forget to carry their pets with them. #SeasonalTravels are mostly considered during holidays and remaining safe should be the motto besides enjoyment and fun during those holidays. And during the travel, if you suffered a personal injury don´t hesitate to contact Slater & Gordon

If you are traveling with your pets in winter, it may take a bit more time to prepare. For their comfort and satisfaction, place a pet bed or a blanket in your car which they usually use so that the environment seems familiar to them. This will make the traveling a lot easier for them as well as for you. You can also add their favorite treats or toys so that they can be prevented from any kind of anxiety.

Since they are also a part of the family, considering the following things will be helpful in this regard.

  • Appropriate Clothing

Not only do winters affect humans, but also the animals. There are many winter-friendly clothes and accessories available for pets that can protect them from the chilling winter season and make them look attractive at the same time. Numerous options are available to give protection and add style to them. So, if you have a dog as a pet, you can buy dog boots, pet sweater, insulated dog jacket, etc. Just make sure that whatever extra clothing you buy for your pets, they feel comfortable in it and if you are keeping your vehicle warm, then keep the jackets and sweaters for the outside environment.

  • Car Safety

Another thing to consider while traveling with your pets in winters is car safety. Before the trip, get your car properly checked and make sure that it is ready for that road trip. Check if the oil needs to be changed or any fluid needs to be filled. Get your tires checked and if they are bald, get them replaced before the trip. And most importantly, do not forget to check the batteries of your car before leaving. If you are with your pet and your car won’t start in the way, it will be a very awkward situation.

  • Take Breaks During the Trip

During long travels in winters, both humans and animals need some breaks for rest. So, every few hours, you should take breaks so that you and your passengers, as well as your pets, can properly stretch their bodies. And if required, don’t forget to use the restroom. Nobody will ever want to reach the destination all worn-out and exhausted. You can follow the general rule of stopping every two hours or 100 miles.
